Everything Returns.

Thirty years of painting. Thousands of fragments. Eleven scrolls. One monolith. Some 2.2 million digital files reduced to 2,200 compositions, all of time compressed into three acts, eleven episodes, and thirty-three scenes. Many embedded in the monolith, others emerging from it. Claude Lévi-Strauss called it bricolage. Making something from what was already there. Nobody remembers who put it there. The monolith comes apart. The scrolls unroll. The fragments keep turning up in unexpected places.

Nothing can be accounted for.

(Every Painting Is a Node)

Painting Is Not a Metaphor.

Euclidean space determines its dimensions. Eulerian relationships trace invisible forces acting upon it. Yet it may be somewhere else entirely. An image becomes an encounter. An encounter becomes another image.

Everything changed.

(Circulation & Exchange)

Ownership is Temporary.

An image changes hands. Its meaning goes missing. Ownership is one thing. Possession is another. Neither explains the attraction. Paintings, films, publications, and encounters circulate between people, institutions, and markets. Even a refusal has its price. All offers considered.

(Continuity & Transformation)

The Composition Has Other Plans.

An image makes an introduction. A stranger becomes familiar. An encounter produces another image. The image finds its way into the world. Someone sees something unexpected. Another encounter begins.

It never ends ♻️
