Everything begins with painting. A watercolor exploring folded morphological forms enters a composition with photographs of collages arranged on a table, itself a painting in progress. Film stills of Grace Mahary meet California poppy fields in bloom, alongside black-and-white office prints of Iké Udé, drawn from a film made in Central Park, the Upper East Side, and his studio. The prints are photographed again, digitally reprocessed, and returned to the composition. Each image becomes a node, carrying its own history into a new arrangement. The painting begins to extend beyond its surface, gathering people, places, and moments that once existed independently.
